Ideas
Raising awareness
- Before the holidays (not truly ideal but probably the only event that can be done this soon): watch Desert Flower, in collaboration with Cine Club, and have a talk after, about:
- (would you [the audience] like to have a quick introduction to the subject first, or should we talk about it after the movie? Please don't go after the movie, stay for the talk!! —> snacks offered!)
- what did you think of the movie? Quick summary, who is Waris Dirie (the woman that the film is about).
- Did you know about FGM before? Now, based on the movie, what do you think it is? What do you think about it? What do you think are the consequences of such a horrid thing? Then, explain to them, concretely: what is FGM, why is it done, the consequences of it, where is it done?
- Why is it important to raise awareness about it? Why does it impact us - so that they feel more “close” to the subject and don't see it as something totally abstract
- Then, present Save Our Girls
Fundraising
- after the October holidays, if possible before, but probably won't…: snack/baking sale in the foyer - organise with Elisabeth and maybe other motivated ppl!!! On the first week of school after rentrée if possible, held on monday and thursday during the 10:20 break.
Successful Events
Raising Awareness
- In the occasion of the international day for the elimination of violence against women, Yana wrote a speech/text for all teachers to read in their classes regarding FGM (and aside, regarding the Mirabal sisters). We also put flyers on different places of the school raising awareness about FGM. → Our school has a specific place where we can post all things regarding equality; here we have also been able to put flyers raising awareness on FGM.
- At the beginning of the 2026 year, Marilou, Clara and Yana have been able to host two events during lunch aiming at raising awareness on FGM. These lasted around 15 minutes and started with a short video from Excision, parlons-en.
